Load testing of web applications from the end-user perspective
Presenter: Duane Dorch with Gomez, a division of Compuware

Synopsis
This session will focus on performance and load testing of web based applications. In a web 2.0 world, traditional forms of load and performance testing are not sufficient. We will explore the differences between traditional load testing and what is needed to test today's web applications. We will also look at case studies and performance testing best practices from some of the leading online retailers.

Bio
Duane Dorch has been involved in load testing and performance management for 21 years. His involvement began with a startup company, Performix, which was the first commercially successful load testing tool vendor. His work at Performix included product development and consulting, where he led many large government and commercial load testing projects. Performix was sold in 1996 to Pure Atria and is now part of the IBM testing suite.

Duane moved to Compuware Corp in 1997 to lead the client-server testing group. He served as Product Line Sales Director for the functional and load testing tools for the next 7 years at Compuware. Duane was instrumental in the development direction of Compuware's QALoad product and trained the sales team on the positioning and key pains associated with load and performance testing.

Duane has also held positions at Keynote Systems, a leading website performance management company, working with companies like USAToday, Washington Post, Circuit City, Comcast, Capitol One, USPS, PNC Bank, and others to measure and improve web application performance.

Currently, Duane leads the load testing sales team at Gomez, the web performance division of Compuware. He works to help educate customer on the differences between traditional load testing (1.0), cloud load testing (1.5), and end-user perspective load testing (2.0).
